What details do you need for an accurate quote?

Your supplier’s sales term determines which parts of the transport cost you must arrange. Ask the supplier to write the named place and Incoterm on the commercial offer. A pickup quote from a factory needs a different scope from a port-to-port quote where the supplier has arranged origin delivery.

Ask each forwarder for a total covering the same transport scope, plus a separate list of exclusions. Then compare:
- The same cargo and equipment, including any special handling.
- The same origin and destination, including the final inland city.
- The actual sailing and expected route, not a general transit estimate.
- The currency, payment terms and exchange-rate basis for local charges.
- The last date to accept the quote and the conditions for booking confirmation.

What should you check about free time?
Ask for the carrier’s container free time and the terminal’s storage terms separately. Ask when each clock starts and whether days are counted as working or calendar days.
