  • Pakistan Petrol and Diesel Prices September 2026: What Higher Fuel Costs Mean for Freight and Logistics

Fuel prices in Pakistan have increased again, putting more pressure on transporters, importers and businesses moving goods around the country.

Effective September 15, 2026, petrol increased to Rs380.24 per litre, while high-speed diesel rose to Rs409.42 per litre.

This was the sixth consecutive increase in petroleum prices, according to Business Recorder.

For logistics companies, manufacturers and importers, diesel matters especially because it directly affects the cost of moving containers and commercial cargo by road.

If you currently have imports moving toward Pakistan, use Maalbardaar Free Shipment Tracking to monitor when the cargo will arrive and plan inland transport around the actual shipment status.

What Are the Latest Petrol and Diesel Prices in Pakistan?

    As of September 15, 2026:

    • Petrol: Rs380.24 per litre
    • High-speed diesel: Rs409.42 per litre

    The latest increase was:

    • Petrol: Rs4.42 per litre
    • Diesel: Rs6.10 per litre

Read the latest Pakistan fuel price report from Business Recorder

The government said the adjustment followed movements in international oil markets and other pricing factors.

Why Are Fuel Prices Rising in Pakistan?

One major reason is the continuing instability in Middle Eastern energy markets.

International crude prices have remained above USD100 per barrel as attacks on regional energy infrastructure and shipping routes continue to create supply concerns. Reuters reported Brent crude above USD107 per barrel on September 15 amid renewed Middle East tensions.

Pakistan is particularly exposed because imported energy affects both:

    • Direct fuel costs
    • Wider transportation and logistics costs

The ongoing Strait of Hormuz disruption is also affecting regional energy movements.

Strait of Hormuz Shipping Crisis 2026

Why Does Diesel Matter More for Freight?

Most commercial road freight in Pakistan relies heavily on diesel.

    This includes:

    • Container trucks
    • Long-haul trailers
    • Delivery trucks
    • Tankers
    • Industrial transport
    • Port-to-factory movement

When diesel rises, operators face higher per-kilometre operating costs.

That does not mean every freight quote automatically increases by exactly the same percentage.

Actual transport pricing also depends on:

    • Distance
    • Truck type
    • Container size
    • Return load
    • Route
    • Toll costs
    • Waiting time
    • Port congestion

But sustained diesel increases can put upward pressure on inland freight rates.

Are Pakistan Transporters Already Feeling the Pressure?

    Yes.

The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association’s vice chairman said on September 15 that high fuel prices had badly affected transport operations and increased transportation costs.

He claimed around 70% of transport operations were already at a standstill, with further disruption possible if current conditions continued.

This is an industry claim rather than an independently verified national operating figure, but it highlights the level of concern inside the transport sector.

Read the Business Recorder report on transport-sector pressure

What Could Higher Diesel Prices Mean for Importers?

For an importer, the international ocean freight rate is only one part of the landed logistics cost.

After the container reaches Pakistan, you may still need to pay for:

    • Port handling
    • Customs clearance
    • Container movement
    • Trucking
    • Delivery to warehouse
    • Empty-container return

For example, a shipment may move:

    China → Karachi → Customs → Lahore

Even if the international ocean freight does not change, the Karachi-to-Lahore transport cost may face pressure from diesel prices.

Which Businesses Could Be Most Affected?

The impact is particularly relevant for companies moving goods long distances from Karachi or Port Qasim.

    This can include businesses in:

    • Lahore
    • Faisalabad
    • Sialkot
    • Multan
    • Islamabad
    • Rawalpindi
    • Peshawar

The farther the final destination is from the port, the more significant inland transportation becomes within the total landed cost.

What About Containers Arriving at Karachi Port?

Once a shipment reaches Karachi Port, importers should monitor when the container actually becomes available.

    Use:

    Karachi Port Tracking

    Then check the relevant terminal:

This helps avoid arranging trucks too early based only on vessel ETA.

    What About Port Qasim Cargo?

For containers moving through Port Qasim, use:

    QICT Container Tracking

    The important milestones include:

    • Arrival
    • Discharge
    • Customs
    • Release
    • Gate out

Gate out is particularly important when planning inland trucking.

How Can Businesses Reduce Logistics Uncertainty?

    Businesses cannot control fuel prices.

    They can improve visibility.

    Importers should monitor:

    • Current ETA
    • Vessel changes
    • Terminal
    • Customs status
    • Container release
    • Gate out

This allows transport to be arranged closer to the actual cargo movement instead of relying on old schedules.

What is the diesel price in Pakistan?

High-speed diesel is Rs409.42 per litre as of September 15, 2026.

Do diesel prices affect container transport?

Yes. Diesel is a major operating cost for road freight and container trucking.

    Will all freight rates increase?

Not necessarily by the same amount. Rates depend on route, distance, vehicle, capacity and market conditions.

How can I track my container before arranging transport?

    Use Maalbardaar Free Shipment Tracking.

    Final Takeaway

Pakistan’s latest fuel-price increases are not just a petrol-pump issue.

They can affect the cost of moving:

    • Imports
    • Exports
    • Containers
    • Raw materials
    • Finished goods

Businesses should therefore manage inland freight using actual shipment visibility instead of estimated arrival dates alone.

  • Pakistan Customs Update September 2026: FBR Expands WeBOC Monitoring of Import and Export Cargo

Pakistan’s Federal Board of Revenue has introduced another major change to the country’s Customs structure.

The latest changes expand digital and intelligence-based monitoring of import and export cargo, while also changing the responsibilities of different Customs formations.

The changes were introduced through SRO 1448(I)/2026 and were reported on September 7, 2026.

For Pakistani importers, exporters, customs agents and logistics teams, the main message is simple:

Customs is becoming more digitally monitored even after cargo has been cleared.

If you have cargo currently approaching Pakistan, track the shipment through Maalbardaar and prepare the customs process before arrival.

    What Changed in Pakistan Customs?

The FBR revised the jurisdiction and functions of Customs field formations around Pakistan.

    Key changes include:

    • Greater intelligence-based monitoring
    • Greater WeBOC-based monitoring
    • Monitoring of cleared import cargo
    • Monitoring of cleared export cargo
    • Changes to warehouse oversight
    • Changes involving clearing-agent licensing
    • Changes to Export Processing Zone responsibilities
    • Redistribution of Customs responsibilities between formations

Read the Business Recorder report on the Customs restructuring

    What Does WeBOC-Based Monitoring Mean?

WeBOC is Pakistan Customs’ digital clearance environment.

Under the revised structure, Customs formations can use intelligence and WeBOC information to monitor cargo even after customs clearance.

The new framework covers cleared cargo at locations including:

    • Ports
    • Off-dock terminals
    • Land Customs stations
    • Dry ports
    • Airports

It also includes cargo placed on hold in WeBOC.

For businesses, this reinforces the need for accurate declarations and documentation.

    Does This Affect Importers?

    Yes.

Importers should make sure the information used for customs clearance matches the actual shipment.

    Important areas include:

    • Commodity description
    • Quantity
    • Value
    • HS or PCT classification
    • Invoice
    • Packing list
    • Import permissions
    • Regulatory documentation

Customs clearance should not be treated simply as getting the container out of the port.

Documentation can remain relevant after release.

    Does This Affect Exporters?

    Yes.

The revised Customs framework also covers export cargo and export facilitation schemes.

    Exporters should ensure consistency between:

    • Commercial invoice
    • Packing list
    • Goods Declaration
    • Export documentation
    • Shipment details
    • Applicable export scheme

This is particularly important for companies regularly exporting under special schemes or through Export Processing Zones.

    Which Cargo Can Be Monitored?

According to the reported changes, the expanded digital monitoring can cover customs-cleared cargo at:

    • Seaports
    • Airports
    • Dry ports
    • Land borders
    • Off-dock terminals

    This includes both:

    • Imports
    • Exports

    What Changed for Karachi?

The revised system also changes responsibilities relating to:

    • Warehouses
    • Clearing agents
    • Duty-free shops
    • Other Customs functions

For Karachi importers, this matters because a large share of Pakistan’s international cargo enters through the Karachi port system.

    Major container terminals include:

    • KICT
    • SAPT
    • KGTL
    • QICT at Port Qasim

If you already have cargo moving, use the correct terminal tracker before arranging clearance.

    Track Cargo at KICT

    Use:

    Maalbardaar KICT Tracking

    Track Cargo at SAPT

    Use:

    Maalbardaar SAPT Tracking

Are Pakistan Customs Values Also Changing?

Customs values are regularly reviewed separately from the latest jurisdiction changes.

FBR’s current September 2026 stakeholder schedule includes valuation work covering products such as:

    • Automotive and motorcycle bulbs
    • Aluminium hydroxide
    • Photocopiers
    • Steel bars
    • Disposable plastic articles
    • Stationery
    • Sodium sulphate
    • Synthetic carpet
    • Silk fabric
    • Raw silk yarn

View the current FBR Customs valuation meeting schedule

Importers should therefore avoid assuming that an old customs valuation will always remain valid.

    Why Does Customs Valuation Matter?

Customs value can affect the base used to calculate duties and taxes.

Depending on the product, landed cost can include:

    • Customs duty
    • Additional customs duty
    • Regulatory duty
    • Sales tax
    • Income tax
    • Other applicable charges

This means an incorrect assumption about valuation can materially change the expected import cost.

Did Customs Duties Change in the 2026-27 Budget?

Yes, Pakistan continued its tariff-rationalization programme.

FBR’s official Budget 2026-27 summary states that changes included:

    • Customs-duty reductions on 92 tariff lines
    • Additional Customs Duty reductions on thousands of tariff lines
    • Elimination of ACD on 569 tariff lines
    • Regulatory Duty reductions across multiple tariff lines

Read FBR’s official Budget 2026-27 Customs summary

The exact duty still depends on the product’s PCT code.

Where Can Importers Check Current Customs Rules?

FBR maintains active import SRO listings showing current Customs notifications.

Current operative notices include regulations covering:

    • Additional Customs Duty
    • Regulatory Duty
    • Commercial vehicle imports
    • Customs Rules

    Check FBR’s active import SROs

What Should Importers Do Before Shipping?

Before cargo leaves the origin, confirm:

    • Product description
    • PCT code
    • Invoice
    • Packing list
    • Required permits
    • Customs valuation
    • Applicable duties
    • Import Policy conditions

This can reduce problems once the shipment reaches Pakistan.

What Should Importers Do While Cargo Is Moving?

    Track the shipment.

    Monitor:

    • Current vessel
    • ETA
    • Port
    • Terminal
    • Discharge

    Use:

    Maalbardaar Free Shipment Tracking

This gives the customs team time to prepare before arrival.

What Happens When the Container Arrives?

A typical import process can involve:

    • Vessel arrival
    • Container discharge
    • Goods Declaration
    • Assessment
    • Duty payment
    • Examination if required
    • Customs release
    • Shipping-line release
    • Terminal release
    • Gate out

Tracking and customs therefore need to work together.

    Need Customs Clearance in Pakistan?

Maalbardaar provides Customs Clearance for businesses moving cargo through Pakistan.

    The objective is to connect:

    • Shipment visibility
    • Documentation
    • Customs
    • Port activity
    • Final release

instead of managing each process separately.

  • Strait of Hormuz Shipping Crisis 2026: How to Track Delayed Shipments and Protect Your Supply Chain

The Strait of Hormuz shipping crisis is no longer only an energy-market story.

It has become a major logistics problem for companies moving cargo between the Gulf, Pakistan, Asia and international markets.

Shipping traffic through Hormuz has fallen significantly as regional conflict, vessel attacks, insurance costs and operating restrictions make Gulf shipping much more difficult.

Reuters reported on September 14, 2026 that weekend commodity-vessel traffic remained well below recent averages, with only four vessels exiting and ten entering the Gulf over the period. Before the Iran war began in February, around 125 vessel transits were taking place each day. Reuters: Hormuz shipping traffic remains below average

For Pakistani importers and exporters, the crisis can affect:

    • UAE shipments
    • Qatar shipments
    • Saudi Arabia shipments
    • Bahrain shipments
    • Kuwait shipments
    • Oman-linked cargo
    • Gulf transshipment connections
    • LNG and energy imports
    • Shipping-line schedules
    • Container availability
    • Freight rates
    • Insurance costs
    • War-risk charges
    • Estimated arrival times

If you already have cargo moving through the region, the most important thing you can do is stop relying only on the original ETA.

    Use your:

    • Container number
    • Bill of Lading
    • Booking number
    • AWB

to check the latest shipment status through Maalbardaar Free Shipment Tracking.

What Is Happening in the Strait of Hormuz?

The Strait of Hormuz is the narrow maritime passage connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and Arabian Sea.

It is one of the world’s most important shipping chokepoints.

The situation became significantly more difficult during 2026 following the wider conflict involving Iran and repeated attacks and restrictions affecting commercial shipping.

On September 10, only seven tracked commodity vessels passed through the Strait, compared with a recent 10-day average of 15.

Before the conflict, approximately 125 vessels were transiting the Strait each day. Reuters: Hormuz traffic falls to single digits

This does not mean every vessel has stopped moving.

It means shipping has become much more restricted, expensive and unpredictable.

Your shipment may still move, but:

    • The vessel may wait
    • The carrier may change routing
    • The shipment may transship differently
    • The ETA may change repeatedly
    • New surcharges may appear
    • Insurance costs may rise
    • Cargo may be stored temporarily
    • A booking may be suspended or changed

Why Is the Strait of Hormuz So Important?

The Strait provides maritime access to major Gulf markets including:

    • UAE
    • Qatar
    • Bahrain
    • Kuwait
    • Iraq
    • Saudi Arabia’s Gulf coast

It is especially important for global oil and LNG.

Before the conflict, around 20% of global crude oil and LNG supply passed through the Strait. Reuters: Current Hormuz traffic and global energy exposure

But this is not only an oil-tanker problem.

Container shipping can also be affected through:

    • Higher insurance costs
    • Higher fuel prices
    • Vessel availability
    • Port-call changes
    • Container shortages
    • Feeder-service disruption
    • Carrier surcharges
    • Crew-risk policies

A crisis affecting energy shipping can therefore eventually affect an importer waiting for machinery from Dubai or an exporter sending cargo into the Gulf.

Is the Strait of Hormuz Closed?

Businesses should be careful with simple headlines saying Hormuz is either completely “open” or completely “closed.”

    The reality is more complicated.

Some commercial vessels continue to transit while other shipowners avoid the area or wait for conditions to improve.

Iran’s Persian Gulf Strait Authority also introduced navigation restrictions and sanctions against individual ships.

On September 14, Iranian authorities issued an updated list of 77 vessels accused of violating their navigation protocols, warning of possible penalties including fines, detention and confiscation. Reuters: Iran issues updated sanctioned-vessel list

A vessel’s ability or willingness to transit can therefore depend on:

    • Shipowner risk appetite
    • Insurance
    • Vessel ownership and nationality
    • Current security conditions
    • Iranian restrictions
    • Carrier policies
    • Cargo type

For an importer, the practical question should not only be:

    “Is Hormuz open?”

    The more useful question is:

“What is happening to my specific shipment?”

That is why live shipment tracking is especially important during the crisis.

Track your shipment free with Maalbardaar.

Why Does the Hormuz Crisis Matter for Pakistan?

Pakistan is geographically close to the Gulf and depends heavily on regional trade and energy flows.

There are several ways the disruption can affect Pakistan.

    Pakistan LNG Imports

    Pakistan imports LNG from Qatar.

Qatar’s LNG industry is highly exposed to Hormuz because cargo leaving Qatar normally needs to cross the Strait.

In September, the QatarEnergy-linked LNG vessel Al Marrouna delivered cargo to Pakistan, becoming the first known Qatar-linked LNG shipment to Pakistan since July. Reuters: Qatar-linked LNG shipment reaches Pakistan

The movement demonstrates both sides of the current situation:

    • Shipments are still possible
    • Schedules are much less predictable than normal

For businesses, this matters because disruption to energy imports can eventually affect:

    • Fuel prices
    • Electricity costs
    • Production costs
    • Trucking
    • Warehousing
    • Domestic logistics

    UAE to Pakistan Shipping

The UAE is one of Pakistan’s most important trade and logistics connections.

Businesses regularly move cargo between Pakistan and:

    • Dubai
    • Jebel Ali
    • Abu Dhabi
    • Sharjah

A shipment does not need to be an oil tanker to be affected by the crisis.

    Container cargo can face:

    • Carrier changes
    • Delayed sailings
    • Contingency charges
    • Equipment shortages
    • Port restrictions
    • Alternative routing

If you have cargo moving from the UAE to Pakistan, check the live shipment rather than depending on the booking ETA.

Track UAE to Pakistan shipments with Maalbardaar.

    Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait Shipping

Markets located deeper inside the Gulf are even more dependent on Hormuz access.

Businesses dealing with these destinations should assume:

    • Vessel schedules can change
    • Space can tighten
    • Freight rates can change quickly
    • New surcharges can appear
    • Cargo acceptance rules can change

Always confirm the booking immediately before dispatching cargo.

Are Pakistan Freight Rates Increasing Because of Hormuz?

Some affected trade lanes have seen major additional charges.

Maersk announced an increase in its Emergency Contingency Surcharge for Middle East to Pakistan dry cargo, effective from September 1, 2026.

The new levels published by Maersk were:

    • USD 2,050 for a 20ft dry container
    • USD 3,500 for a 40ft dry, 40HC or 45HC container

The covered Middle East region includes countries such as UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Iraq, Kuwait and Jordan. Maersk: Middle East to Pakistan Emergency Contingency Surcharge

    This is important:

The surcharge is not the complete freight price.

It is an additional charge caused by current operating conditions.

When comparing freight quotations, ask whether the price includes:

    • Base freight
    • Emergency contingency surcharge
    • War-risk charges
    • Insurance
    • Terminal charges
    • Documentation
    • Origin charges
    • Destination charges

If you need to ship now, use a current quote.

    Maalbardaar Freight Quotes

What Extra Charges Are Shipping Lines Adding?

Maersk’s August 31 Middle East operational update shows how expensive the disruption can become.

For certain existing Gulf bookings and cargo already in transit, the carrier introduced emergency freight charges of:

    • USD 1,800 per 20ft dry container
    • USD 3,000 per 40ft dry container
    • USD 3,800 per reefer, special or dangerous-goods container

Maersk also said vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz would incur an additional:

    • USD 1,000 per container

to cover added costs such as insurance premiums and crew-risk compensation. Maersk: Middle East Operational Update 44

These charges show why an old freight rate can quickly become useless during a maritime crisis.

Why Is War-Risk Insurance So Important?

One of the largest pressures on Hormuz shipping is marine insurance.

Reuters reported on September 9 that war-risk premiums had increased dramatically.

According to an executive at Emirates National Oil Company, insurance and war-risk costs could push the cost of some oil-vessel transits through Hormuz into the USD 10 million to USD 20 million range.

War-risk premiums alone had risen to as much as 10% of cargo value in some situations. Reuters: Hormuz transit and war-risk costs surge

These figures relate mainly to energy shipping, not a normal container booking.

But they show why carriers operating in the same region are introducing:

    • Emergency fees
    • Higher surcharges
    • Alternative routings
    • More restrictive booking policies

    Which Shipments Are Most Exposed?

Cargo linked with ports inside the Persian Gulf faces the most direct exposure.

    This includes shipments connected with:

    • Jebel Ali
    • Dubai
    • Abu Dhabi
    • Doha
    • Bahrain
    • Kuwait
    • Dammam
    • Jubail
    • Iraqi Gulf ports

However, the effect can spread beyond those routes.

Other cargo can still feel the impact through:

    • Vessel redeployment
    • Higher fuel prices
    • Equipment shortages
    • Insurance increases
    • Port congestion
    • Carrier network restructuring

How Is Maersk Handling the Crisis?

Maersk has been issuing regular Middle East operational updates throughout the crisis.

By September 11, its Hormuz advisory had reached Middle East Operational Update 46.

The carrier specifically recommends using shipment and container tracking for the latest information on individual cargo. Maersk: Strait of Hormuz operations and shipment updates

Maersk has also expanded landbridge solutions across markets including:

    • Saudi Arabia
    • Kuwait
    • Bahrain
    • UAE
    • Qatar
    • Iraq

as alternatives become necessary. Maersk: Latest Middle East operational updates

    This reinforces an important point:

General news tells you what is happening in the region.

Tracking tells you what is happening to your shipment.

Why Your Original ETA May No Longer Be Reliable

When you book a shipment, you normally receive an estimated arrival date.

During stable conditions, that ETA is useful.

During the Hormuz crisis, it can change because of:

    • Vessel waiting
    • Security reviews
    • Port-call changes
    • Transshipment
    • Route changes
    • Insurance restrictions
    • Service suspensions
    • Alternative storage

Do not plan customs, trucking or production only around the original booking ETA.

    Check the latest events instead.

How Can I Track a Shipment Affected by Hormuz?

    Find your:

    • Container number
    • Bill of Lading
    • Booking reference
    • AWB

    Then enter it into:

    Maalbardaar Free Shipment Tracking

    Maalbardaar supports shipment tracking across:

    • FCL
    • LCL
    • Air cargo
    • Containers
    • BL references
    • Booking references
    • AWBs
    • Hundreds of carriers
    • Hundreds of ports

The purpose is to make shipment visibility easier without opening every carrier website separately.

What Should I Check in Shipment Tracking?

Do not look only at a map.

    Look at shipment events.

    Important events include:

    • Booking confirmed
    • Container received
    • Loaded
    • Vessel departed
    • Transshipment
    • Vessel changed
    • ETA changed
    • Destination arrival
    • Discharged
    • Customs hold
    • Released
    • Gate out

During the Hormuz crisis, pay particular attention to:

    • Vessel changes
    • Unexpected transshipment
    • Long periods without movement
    • Unexpected ports
    • ETA changes

These can indicate a carrier network adjustment.

What Does “In Transit” Mean During the Hormuz Crisis?

“In transit” does not always mean the vessel is sailing directly toward the final destination.

    The shipment can still be:

    • Waiting at a hub
    • Waiting for another vessel
    • Temporarily stored
    • Being rerouted
    • Awaiting an operational decision

Look at the latest event location and timestamp.

Why Has My Shipment Stopped Updating?

    First check:

    • Container number
    • BL
    • Carrier
    • Last event
    • Last port
    • Current vessel
    • Latest ETA

Then compare the carrier information with the relevant terminal information.

There is another complication during security crises.

Some vessels may switch off or restrict AIS broadcasting.

Reuters noted that current Hormuz traffic figures may undercount some ships because vessels can disable their AIS transponders. Reuters: Vessel sanctions and AIS tracking limitations in Hormuz

A temporary vessel-tracking gap does not automatically mean your cargo is lost.

What If My Shipment Is Coming From Dubai to Pakistan?

If you have cargo moving from Dubai or Jebel Ali:

    • Check the latest tracking event
    • Confirm the vessel
    • Check the current ETA
    • Ask whether a surcharge has been added
    • Confirm the Pakistan destination port
    • Prepare customs documents early

    Track it using:

    Maalbardaar Shipment Tracking

If the shipment has not yet been booked:

What If My Shipment Is Going From Pakistan to the Gulf?

    Exporters face similar uncertainty.

    Cargo moving from Pakistan toward:

    • UAE
    • Qatar
    • Bahrain
    • Kuwait
    • Dammam
    • Jubail
    • Other Gulf destinations

can be affected by schedule changes and carrier restrictions.

    Before dispatching the cargo, confirm:

    • Booking validity
    • Current vessel
    • Cargo acceptance
    • Destination-port acceptance
    • Reefer acceptance
    • Dangerous-goods acceptance
    • Latest surcharge
    • Latest sailing

    Carrier policies can change quickly.

Use the most recent carrier advisory rather than assuming a policy from several weeks earlier still applies.

Can Shipping Lines Reroute Around Hormuz?

For cargo whose destination is inside the Persian Gulf, simply sailing around another maritime route does not completely solve the problem.

The destination itself may require Hormuz access.

Shipping companies can instead use combinations of:

    • Alternative ports
    • Landbridge services
    • Temporary storage
    • Different transshipment hubs
    • Road connections
    • Alternative Gulf gateways

The exact solution depends on the shipment.

Why Is Salalah Important During the Crisis?

Salalah, Oman is located outside the Strait of Hormuz.

That makes it strategically useful when shipping inside the Gulf becomes difficult.

Hapag-Lloyd announced that from September 26, 2026 its SE3 service would add Salalah as a port call as part of an updated Middle East service rotation. Hapag-Lloyd: SE3 service adds Salalah

Hapag-Lloyd’s regional operational update also reported congestion at Salalah, with yard density reaching approximately 73% and berthing delays of up to 36 hours at the time of the update. Hapag-Lloyd: Middle East operational update

If your shipment suddenly shows Salalah, it may be part of a contingency route rather than a tracking error.

Can Cargo Be Stored at Another Port?

    Yes.

When carriers cannot move a shipment safely to its final destination, they can temporarily store or discharge cargo elsewhere.

Maersk’s August 31 operational update specifically discusses alternative routing and storage in transit for cargo affected by the Gulf disruption. Maersk: Alternative routing and storage in transit

For the cargo owner, this can create a confusing tracking pattern.

The shipment might appear to stop at an unexpected port for several days.

This is exactly when shipment tracking becomes useful.

Is Hormuz Only Affecting Oil and LNG?

    No.

Oil and LNG receive most of the news coverage because of the Strait’s importance to global energy.

But container shipping can also be affected through:

    • Insurance
    • Fuel prices
    • Vessel availability
    • Emergency surcharges
    • Crew-risk policies
    • Port restrictions
    • Network changes
    • Equipment shortages

The disruption has also pushed marine fuel prices higher.

Reuters reported that very-low-sulphur fuel oil prices in Singapore had risen by more than 60% compared with pre-war levels, even though the market had begun adapting to the disruption. Reuters: Marine fuel market adapts to prolonged Hormuz disruption

Higher fuel costs can eventually feed into freight pricing across routes far beyond the Gulf.

Can Hormuz Affect China to Pakistan Shipping?

A China-to-Pakistan vessel does not necessarily need to enter the Persian Gulf.

However, the crisis can still affect the wider freight market through:

    • Fuel costs
    • Vessel deployment
    • Carrier capacity
    • Equipment positioning
    • Regional disruptions

For the complete route guide, read:

    China to Pakistan Shipping

    For cargo already moving:

    Maalbardaar Shipment Tracking

Can Hormuz Affect Karachi to Europe Shipping?

Karachi-to-Europe cargo generally does not need to enter Hormuz.

However, wider Middle East disruption can still affect:

    • Fuel prices
    • Vessel deployment
    • Insurance
    • Regional connections
    • Freight surcharges

Shipping also continues to face risk around other Middle Eastern chokepoints.

This means the effect of the crisis can spread into routes that never physically cross Hormuz.

What Should Pakistani Importers Do Right Now?

If you already have cargo moving:

    • Track the shipment regularly
    • Check the latest carrier ETA
    • Verify vessel changes
    • Check for unexpected transshipment
    • Prepare customs documents early
    • Confirm the Pakistan terminal
    • Ask about new surcharges
    • Arrange transport around actual release
    • Avoid relying only on the original ETA

    Start with:

What Should Pakistani Exporters Do Right Now?

    Before dispatching cargo:

    • Confirm the booking
    • Check current carrier advisories
    • Confirm cargo acceptance
    • Check vessel schedule
    • Check surcharges
    • Review insurance
    • Keep the overseas buyer updated
    • Track the shipment after departure

    For freight:

    Maalbardaar Freight Forwarding

    For tracking:

    Maalbardaar Shipment Tracking

What Should I Ask My Freight Forwarder?

    Instead of asking:

    “Any update?”

    ask:

    • What is the current vessel?
    • What is the latest ETA?
    • Has the routing changed?
    • Is there a new transshipment port?
    • Has my container discharged somewhere unexpected?
    • Is a Hormuz surcharge being added?
    • Is the shipping line still accepting cargo?
    • Is my container being stored somewhere?
    • Is an alternative routing available?
    • Does the insurance cover current war risk?

    Specific questions produce better answers.

    Final Takeaway

The Strait of Hormuz shipping crisis is changing too quickly for businesses to manage cargo using old ETAs and occasional WhatsApp updates.

    The most important questions are:

    • Where is my shipment right now?
    • Has the vessel changed?
    • Has the route changed?
    • Has the ETA changed?
    • Has a surcharge been added?
    • Is the container waiting at another port?
    • What needs to happen next?

If your cargo is already moving, start there.

During a shipping crisis, visibility is not just useful.

It helps you decide what to do next.

  • Port and Terminal Track and Trace Pakistan: Karachi Port, Port Qasim, KICT, SAPT, KGTL and QICT

A shipping line tells you about the international journey.

A port or terminal tells you what is happening once the container reaches Pakistan.

These are different types of tracking, and both matter.

For importers and exporters in Pakistan, the most useful process is:

Carrier tracking → Pakistan port → terminal → customs → release → gate out

Start with Maalbardaar Shipment Tracking for the international journey.

Then move into the correct port or terminal page once the destination is confirmed.

What Is Port and Terminal Tracking?

Port and terminal tracking focuses on the local handling stage of a shipment.

    This can include information around:

    • Vessel arrival
    • Berthing
    • Container discharge
    • Container availability
    • Yard movement
    • Customs examination
    • Release
    • Gate out

Carrier tracking and terminal tracking should be used together.

A shipping line may tell you that the vessel has arrived in Karachi, but the terminal can tell you whether your specific container has actually been discharged or released.

Which Ports Handle Containers in Pakistan?

For international container cargo moving through Karachi, the two main port environments are:

    • Karachi Port
    • Port Qasim

Each has its own terminals and operating systems.

Maalbardaar has dedicated tracking and information pages for both.

    Karachi Port Track and Trace

Karachi Port is one of Pakistan’s main container gateways.

If your Bill of Lading or carrier information shows Karachi Port, start with:

    Karachi Port Tracking

Karachi Port has several major container terminals, including:

    • KICT
    • SAPT
    • KGTL

Once the correct terminal is confirmed, move into the terminal-specific tracking page.

    KICT Track and Trace

KICT stands for Karachi International Container Terminal.

If your shipment is moving through KICT, use:

    Maalbardaar KICT Container Tracking

KICT tracking becomes particularly useful for checking local terminal events after the vessel reaches Karachi.

    You can also read:

    KICT Container Tracking Pakistan

What Can I Track at KICT?

Depending on the available shipment data, you may be able to follow stages such as:

    • Vessel arrival
    • Container discharge
    • Terminal movement
    • Release
    • Gate out

If the carrier says the vessel has arrived but your container is not yet available, wait for the container-level event rather than relying only on the vessel ETA.

    SAPT Track and Trace

SAPT is another major container terminal operating at Karachi Port.

If your shipment is assigned to SAPT, use:

    Maalbardaar SAPT Tracking

Do not use KICT tracking for a shipment that is actually moving through SAPT.

The terminal shown on the shipping line documentation should guide you.

    KGTL Track and Trace

For cargo assigned to KGTL, use:

    Maalbardaar KGTL Tracking

    The same rule applies:

    • Confirm the port
    • Confirm the terminal
    • Then track the local container movement

    Port Qasim Track and Trace

Port Qasim is separate from Karachi Port.

This distinction matters because importers sometimes use “Karachi Port” as a general term for any cargo arriving

  • Air Cargo Track and Trace Pakistan: Track Shipments by AWB

Container shipping is not the only freight that needs tracking.

Businesses importing or exporting urgent cargo by air also need to know:

    • Has the shipment departed?
    • Where is it connecting?
    • When will it arrive?
    • Has customs started?
    • When can it be delivered?

For supported shipments, use your Air Waybill information through Maalbardaar Shipment Tracking.

    What Is an AWB?

    AWB stands for Air Waybill.

It is one of the main transport references used for air cargo.

Air freight tracking systems use shipment references to connect the cargo with flight and milestone information.

How Do I Track Air Cargo in Pakistan?

    Start with:

    • AWB
    • Carrier information
    • Origin
    • Destination

Then use a supported tracking platform.

Maalbardaar’s tracking page supports AWB searches alongside sea-freight container, BL and booking references.

What Can Air Cargo Tracking Show?

Depending on the airline and data available, tracking can show milestones such as:

    • Cargo received
    • Flight departure
    • Connection
    • Arrival
    • Cargo available
    • Delivery-related activity

Tracking detail can vary between airlines.

    Air Cargo Imports Into Karachi

Air imports arriving in Karachi still require customs clearance.

Shipment arrival does not mean the cargo can immediately leave the airport.

    The shipment may still need:

    • Import declaration
    • Regulatory approval
    • Customs assessment
    • Duty and taxes
    • Examination
    • Release

Use Maalbardaar Customs Clearance for the Pakistan clearance stage.

    Air Cargo Imports Into Lahore

Lahore can be useful for businesses importing urgent cargo into Punjab.

Tracking should continue until the shipment is actually available for release.

    Air Cargo Imports Into Islamabad

Islamabad and Rawalpindi businesses can use air shipment tracking to plan customs and inland collection around actual cargo arrival.

    Air Cargo for Faisalabad Businesses

Faisalabad manufacturers may use air freight for:

    • Urgent machinery parts
    • Textile samples
    • Chemicals
    • Components
    • Production-critical goods

Tracking can help production teams understand whether the shipment is on schedule.

    Air Cargo for Sialkot Businesses

Sialkot businesses often work with time-sensitive manufactured products and samples.

Air freight tracking is useful for both:

    • Imports
    • Exports

especially when buyer or production deadlines matter.

    Air Freight Exports From Pakistan

    Exporters should monitor:

    • Cargo acceptance
    • Flight departure
    • Connection
    • Destination arrival
    • Buyer delivery milestones

    This is particularly important for:

    • Samples
    • Urgent garments
    • Surgical products
    • Machinery parts
    • High-value goods
    • Time-sensitive customer orders

Sea Freight vs Air Freight Tracking

    Both require shipment references.

The major difference is the transport mode.

    Sea freight commonly uses:

    • Container number
    • BL
    • Booking number

    Air freight commonly uses:

    • AWB

Use Maalbardaar Tracking for supported sea and air shipments.

Does Air Cargo Tracking Include Customs?

    Not automatically.

Carrier tracking and customs clearance are different processes.

A shipment can show arrived while Pakistan customs clearance is still pending.

    For customs support, use:

    Maalbardaar Customs Clearance

Can I Track Air Freight From China to Pakistan?

Yes, if the shipment and airline are supported.

  • Import Shipment Track and Trace Pakistan: Track Cargo From Origin to Delivery

An import shipment is not complete when the vessel reaches Karachi.

For a Pakistani importer, the complete journey can look like:

Supplier → origin port → international transport → Pakistan port → terminal → customs → gate out → warehouse

Good import tracking should help you understand which part of that journey is happening now.

Use Maalbardaar Shipment Tracking with your supported:

    • Container number
    • Bill of Lading
    • Booking number
    • AWB

How Do I Track an Import Shipment Into Pakistan?

Start with the reference given by your supplier, shipping company or freight forwarder.

For ocean cargo, this can include:

    • Container number
    • BL number
    • Booking reference

    For air cargo:

    • AWB

Enter the reference into Maalbardaar Shipment Tracking.

Then monitor the international journey before switching into Pakistan port and customs activity.

What Should I Track Before the Shipment Reaches Pakistan?

    Before arrival, monitor:

    • Origin departure
    • Transshipment
    • Current vessel
    • ETA
    • Destination port
    • Destination terminal

An ETA is useful, but it should not be treated as a guaranteed warehouse-delivery date.

What Happens When an Import Arrives in Karachi?

The shipment may still need to:

    • Berth
    • Discharge
    • Clear customs
    • Complete carrier release
    • Complete terminal release
    • Gate out
    • Move inland

This is why importers should continue tracking after vessel arrival.

    Track Imports Through Karachi Port

If the destination is Karachi Port, use:

    Karachi Port Tracking

The container may be handled through terminals such as:

    • KICT
    • SAPT
    • KGTL

Use the correct terminal page after confirming the booking.

    Track Imports Through Port Qasim

If your shipment is routed through Port Qasim, use:

    QICT Container Tracking

How Do I Track Customs Clearance?

International cargo tracking and customs status are different.

Pakistan Single Window gives authorized traders and agents visibility over import declaration activity, and its digital import process records actions at each stage of the declaration.

Maalbardaar provides customs clearance alongside freight tracking.

    Import Tracking for Lahore

    For Lahore:

International origin → Karachi / Port Qasim → customs → gate out → Lahore

Do not stop tracking when the vessel reaches Pakistan.

    Import Tracking for Faisalabad

    Manufacturers should monitor:

    • ETA
    • Discharge
    • Customs release
    • Gate out

because production planning may depend on when the cargo actually leaves the port.

    Import Tracking for Sialkot

Sialkot businesses importing machinery, components or packaging should follow the shipment through the complete inland journey.

Import Tracking for Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Multan

Longer inland movements make gate-out tracking even more important.

Use terminal release as a key planning milestone.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can I track an import before it reaches Pakistan?

Yes. Carrier-level tracking can follow international milestones before arrival.

Does vessel arrival mean the cargo is ready?

No. Discharge, customs, release and gate-out stages may remain.

    Can I track customs status?

Customs processes are separate from carrier tracking, but Pakistan Single Window and your clearing workflow provide regulatory-status visibility.

    Can Maalbardaar track imported containers?

Yes, across supported carriers and references.

  • Track and Trace Pakistan: Track Containers, BLs and Shipments Online

Tracking an international shipment should not mean calling your freight forwarder every few hours or opening several shipping-line websites.

If you are importing or exporting through Pakistan, you can use shipment information such as your:

    • Container number
    • Bill of Lading number
    • Booking reference
    • Air Waybill number

to follow cargo through different parts of its journey.

With Maalbardaar Shipment Tracking, businesses can search supported sea and air shipments across hundreds of carriers from one tracking platform.

    The idea is simple:

Enter your shipment reference. Check the latest movement. Know what needs to happen next.

What Does Track and Trace Mean in Shipping?

Track and trace is the process of following cargo through the different events in its logistics journey.

For container shipping, these events can include:

    • Booking
    • Container pickup
    • Gate in
    • Vessel loading
    • Departure
    • Transshipment
    • Port arrival
    • Discharge
    • Gate out
    • Final delivery

The Digital Container Shipping Association has developed industry Track & Trace standards designed to create consistent shipment events across carriers and enable continuous container visibility.

This is important because knowing only the vessel location does not tell you everything happening to your cargo.

How Do I Track a Shipment in Pakistan?

Start with the shipment reference provided by the carrier or freight forwarder.

    You may have:

    • Container number
    • Bill of Lading number
    • Booking number
    • AWB number

Enter the reference into Maalbardaar Shipment Tracking.

Depending on the shipment, you can then follow available international and Pakistan-side milestones.

Can I Track a Shipment by Container Number?

    Yes.

For ocean freight, the container number is one of the most useful tracking references.

A standard container number typically contains:

    • Four letters
    • Seven digits

Major carriers such as Maersk use the container number as a core shipment-tracking reference and display milestones such as loading, discharge and estimated arrival.

If you already have your container number, use:

    Track a Container With Maalbardaar

    For a deeper guide, read:

    Container Tracking in Pakistan

Can I Track Using a Bill of Lading?

    Yes.

A Bill of Lading, commonly called a BL or B/L, is one of the main ocean-freight documents.

A BL can help identify the shipment even when you do not have the physical container number available.

Maalbardaar supports BL searches across supported carriers.

    You can also read:

Track a Container by Bill of Lading Number in Pakistan

Major carriers support similar workflows. Hapag-Lloyd, for example, allows shipment tracing using container, booking and Bill of Lading references.

Can I Track Using a Booking Number?

    Yes, depending on the carrier.

A booking number identifies the carrier reservation.

It can be particularly useful before or during the early stages of an ocean shipment.

Maalbardaar supports booking-reference searches across supported shipping companies through its shipment tracker.

Can I Track Air Cargo in Pakistan?

    Yes.

Air cargo normally uses an Air Waybill, or AWB, as one of its main shipment references.

Maalbardaar supports air cargo alongside FCL and LCL shipment tracking.

    Read:

Air Cargo Track and Trace Pakistan

    Container Track and Trace Pakistan

Container tracking is particularly important for businesses importing or exporting through:

    • Karachi Port
    • Port Qasim

Your tracking journey can involve both the shipping line and the terminal.

    For example:

Carrier tracking → Pakistan port → terminal → customs → gate out

Use Maalbardaar Container Tracking for the international movement.

Once the terminal is confirmed, move into terminal-specific tracking.

Track and Trace Karachi Port Shipments

Karachi Port includes several container terminals.

    These include:

    • KICT
    • SAPT
    • KGTL

    For port-level tracking, use:

    Karachi Port Shipment Tracking

    For KICT cargo:

    For SAPT cargo:

    SAPT Tracking

    For KGTL cargo:

    KGTL Tracking

Track and Trace Port Qasim Shipments

For cargo moving through Port Qasim, QICT is one of the main container-terminal environments.

    Use:

    QICT Container Tracking

This is particularly useful after the carrier confirms the Pakistan destination and terminal.

    What Does Vessel Arrived Mean?

Vessel arrival does not mean your cargo is ready for collection.

    Several stages may remain:

    • Vessel berthing
    • Container discharge
    • Terminal processing
    • Customs clearance
    • Shipping line release
    • Terminal release
    • Gate out
    • Inland transportation

This is why useful track and trace should follow the container rather than only the vessel.

    What Does Container Discharged Mean?

Discharged generally means the container has been unloaded from the vessel.

This confirms an important terminal milestone.

However, your cargo may still require:

    • Customs assessment
    • Duty and tax payment
    • Examination
    • Customs release
    • Carrier requirements
    • Terminal release

If customs becomes the next issue, use Maalbardaar Customs Clearance.

    What Does Gate Out Mean?

Gate out generally means the container has physically left the terminal.

For an importer, the journey may then continue to:

    • Karachi
    • Lahore
    • Faisalabad
    • Sialkot

Gate out is therefore often much closer to the real delivery timeline than vessel ETA.

Shipment Track and Trace for Imports

An import into Pakistan can move through:

International origin → vessel or aircraft → Pakistan → customs → release → final delivery

Importers should monitor both the international freight movement and the Pakistan clearance process.

Pakistan Single Window’s digital import system also gives traders visibility over declaration and regulatory activity. Its 2026 mobile app allows traders to monitor declaration progress and receive customs-related updates.

Shipment Track and Trace for Exports

Export tracking should begin before the vessel leaves Pakistan.

    Useful stages include:

    • Booking confirmed
    • Empty container pickup
    • Factory loading
    • Gate in
    • Customs
    • Vessel loading
    • Departure
    • Transshipment
    • Destination arrival
    • Delivery

Maalbardaar already has a detailed guide covering Export Shipment Tracking From Pakistan.

Track Different Shipping Lines in One Place

One of the biggest problems for businesses is managing shipments across several shipping companies.

    Your company may have:

    • Maersk shipment
    • MSC shipment
    • CMA CGM shipment
    • Hapag-Lloyd shipment
    • ONE shipment
    • HMM shipment
    • Evergreen shipment

Checking each website separately creates unnecessary manual work.

DCSA’s Track & Trace framework specifically focuses on standardized cross-carrier shipment events and data interoperability.

Maalbardaar’s multi-carrier tracking platform is designed around the same business problem.

Why Is My Shipment Tracking Not Updating?

    Several things may be happening.

    Check:

    • Reference number
    • Carrier
    • Vessel
    • Port
    • Terminal
    • Latest ETA
    • Discharge status
    • Customs status

Sometimes the carrier has updated but the terminal has not.

Sometimes the terminal has the container but customs is still pending.

    Sometimes the vessel ETA changed.

Use more than one tracking layer before assuming the cargo is lost or seriously delayed.

What Shipment Statuses Should I Understand?

    Important statuses can include:

    • Booked
    • Gate in
    • Loaded
    • Departed
    • Transshipment
    • Arrived
    • Discharged
    • Customs hold
    • Released
    • Gate out
    • Delivered

Can Track and Trace Help With Customs?

    Tracking cannot replace customs clearance.

However, tracking can tell your customs team when they need to act.

    Useful events can include:

    • ETA change
    • Vessel arrival
    • Container discharge
    • Customs hold
    • Release

Maalbardaar combines tracking with customs clearance in Pakistan.

Track Shipments Before They Reach Pakistan

Tracking is useful before the vessel reaches Karachi.

    Your team can monitor:

    • Departure
    • Transshipment
    • Route changes
    • ETA
    • Destination port

    This helps with:

    • Customs-document preparation
    • Warehouse planning
    • Transport planning
    • Inventory management

Track Shipments After They Reach Pakistan

After arrival, tracking should shift toward:

    • Terminal
    • Discharge
    • Customs
    • Release
    • Gate out
    • Inland delivery

  • Shipment Tracking Status Meanings Pakistan: What Each Container Status Means

You enter your container number and see:

    Discharged

    Or:

    Gate Out

    Or:

    In Transit

But what do these shipment tracking statuses actually mean?

Knowing the status is only useful if you understand what should happen next.

For Pakistani importers and exporters, shipment tracking can involve several different systems:

    • Shipping line
    • Port
    • Terminal
    • Customs
    • Freight forwarder

This is why two tracking websites may sometimes show different wording for the same shipment.

Start with Maalbardaar Shipment Tracking to check supported container, BL, booking and AWB references.

Then use this guide to understand the most common freight tracking statuses.

    What Does Booked Mean?

Booked normally means the carrier reservation has been created or confirmed.

    At this stage:

    • Cargo may still be at the factory
    • Container may not be assigned
    • Container may not have reached the terminal
    • Vessel departure may still be days away

A booking confirmation is the beginning of the transport process, not proof that the cargo is already moving.

    What Does Container Assigned Mean?

Container assigned generally means the carrier or logistics provider has connected a physical container with the booking.

You may then receive the container number.

This becomes one of the main references used for tracking.

    What Does Empty Pickup Mean?

For FCL exports, an empty container may first be collected from a depot.

The exporter or transporter can then move it to the loading location.

A typical export journey can begin:

Empty pickup → factory loading → gate in → vessel loading

    What Does Gate In Mean?

Gate in generally means the container has entered the port, terminal or other relevant facility.

For an export shipment, this usually happens before vessel loading.

Gate in does not mean the vessel has departed.

The container may still be waiting in the terminal yard.

What Does Received at Terminal Mean?

This generally means the terminal has received the cargo or container into its operating system.

Depending on the shipment type, it may still need:

    • Customs processing
    • Vessel planning
    • Loading
    • Other terminal activity

    What Does Loaded Mean?

Loaded generally means the container has been loaded onto the vessel.

For exporters, this is an important milestone because the container is now physically on the ship scheduled to carry it.

However, the vessel itself may not yet have departed.

    What Does Vessel Departed Mean?

Vessel departed means the ship has left the port.

For an export from Pakistan, this confirms that the international sea journey has started.

    For example:

    Karachi → Jebel Ali

    or:

    Karachi → Europe

    or another international destination.

Continue monitoring the shipment because transshipment or schedule changes can still occur.

    What Does In Transit Mean?

In transit means the shipment is moving through the logistics journey.

It does not necessarily mean the container is continuously moving.

    The shipment may temporarily be:

    • On a vessel
    • Waiting at a transshipment port
    • Moving between terminals
    • Waiting for a connecting vessel
    • Moving inland

“In transit” is therefore a broad status.

    What Does Transshipment Mean?

Transshipment means the cargo is transferred through an intermediate port before reaching the final destination.

    For example:

Origin → transshipment port → destination

    The container may be:

    • Discharged from the first vessel
    • Held temporarily at the hub
    • Loaded onto another vessel

    This can affect ETA.

    What Does Vessel Arrived Mean?

Vessel arrived means the ship has reached the destination port.

For a Pakistan import, this can mean arrival at:

    • Karachi Port
    • Port Qasim

However, vessel arrival does not mean the container is ready for pickup.

    Several steps can still remain.

    What Does Berthing Mean?

Berthing means the vessel has reached its berth and can begin port operations.

A ship can arrive in the port area before actually berthing.

This is another reason vessel arrival and container discharge do not always happen at the same time.

    What Does Container Discharged Mean?

Discharged generally means the container has been unloaded from the vessel.

This is an important import milestone.

    But discharged does not mean:

    • Customs cleared
    • Shipping line released
    • Terminal released
    • Ready for final delivery

Your cargo can still remain at the terminal for several operational reasons.

    What Does Grounded Mean?

Grounded generally means the container has been placed in a terminal yard position.

This can happen as part of normal terminal activity or because the container needs to be positioned for another process.

    For example:

    • Customs examination
    • Inspection
    • Other terminal activity

The exact use of the term can vary between terminals.

    What Does Customs Hold Mean?

A customs hold means the shipment may require action from Customs or another regulatory authority before it can continue.

    Possible reasons include:

    • Assessment
    • Documentation review
    • Customs examination
    • Valuation
    • Regulatory approval
    • Duty or tax issue

If the container has reached Pakistan but customs is holding the shipment, use Maalbardaar Customs Clearance to coordinate the clearance stage.

    What Does Under Examination Mean?

Under examination generally means Customs has selected the cargo for physical or other inspection.

This may require the container to be positioned for examination.

The shipment cannot simply leave the terminal until the required customs process is completed.

    What Does Customs Cleared Mean?

Customs cleared generally means the customs requirements have progressed to the point where Customs no longer prevents the shipment from moving toward release.

However, customs clearance does not automatically mean the container will immediately leave the terminal.

    Other requirements may remain.

    What Does Released Mean?

Released can be confusing because there can be different types of release.

    These may include:

    • Customs release
    • Shipping line release
    • Terminal release

One system showing “released” does not necessarily mean every other requirement is complete.

Always confirm what kind of release the status refers to.

What Does Shipping Line Release Mean?

Shipping line release generally means carrier-side requirements have been completed.

Depending on the shipment, these can involve:

    • Documentation
    • Payments
    • Delivery order
    • Other carrier requirements

Terminal requirements can still remain afterward.

    What Does Terminal Release Mean?

Terminal release means the shipment has completed the relevant terminal-side requirements for onward movement.

A truck and gate process may still need to be completed before the container actually leaves.

    What Does Gate Out Mean?

Gate out is one of the most important physical shipment statuses.

It generally means the container has left the terminal.

For a Pakistan import, the shipment can then move inland.

    For example:

    • KICT → Lahore
    • SAPT → Faisalabad
    • KGTL → Islamabad
    • QICT → Multan

For businesses waiting for goods at the factory, gate out can be much more useful than vessel arrival.

What Does Out for Delivery Mean?

Out for delivery means the shipment is in the final delivery stage.

For container freight, wording may differ depending on the inland logistics provider.

The container or cargo can be moving from:

    • Port
    • Terminal
    • Depot
    • Warehouse

    toward the final consignee.

    What Does Delivered Mean?

Delivered normally means the shipment has reached the final destination defined in the transport service.

    This could be:

    • Customer warehouse
    • Factory
    • Distribution centre
    • Other named destination

The exact meaning depends on the service booked.

Why Do Different Websites Show Different Shipment Statuses?

Different parties see different parts of the logistics journey.

    For example:

    Shipping line

    Can see:

    • Vessel
    • Container
    • Booking
    • Transshipment
    • International ETA

    Terminal

    Can see:

    • Discharge
    • Yard movement
    • Examination positioning
    • Release
    • Gate activity

    Customs

    Can see:

    • Declaration
    • Assessment
    • Examination
    • Customs release

    Freight forwarder

Can connect information across several of these stages.

This is why one website can show arrived while another shows discharged.

    They may both be correct.

What If My Tracking Has Not Updated?

    Check:

    • Container number
    • BL number
    • Booking reference
    • Carrier
    • Vessel
    • Port
    • Terminal
    • Latest ETA

Then compare carrier tracking against terminal tracking.

If the vessel has arrived but no container event appears, the container may not yet have discharged.

What If My Container Is Discharged but Not Released?

    Possible reasons include:

    • Customs pending
    • Examination pending
    • Duty or tax payment pending
    • Shipping line requirements
    • Terminal charges
    • Documentation problem

Use Maalbardaar Customs Clearance if the delay is related to Pakistan customs.

What If My Container Is Released but Has Not Gated Out?

    Check:

    • Terminal requirements
    • Transport arrangement
    • Truck availability
    • Gate documentation
    • Operational timing

Release and physical gate out are not the same milestone.

  • Pakistan Supply Chain Update — Week 37 of 2026 (14th September, 2026)

    Hi, it’s Faiz from Maalbardaar.

After last week’s focus on trade deficit pressure, fuel prices, LNG risk, and Port Qasim activity, this week’s update is about cost control and clearance planning.

Remittances improved again in August, which gives Pakistan some external support.

But fuel prices have increased for the fifth straight review, diesel has crossed Rs400 per litre, and Hormuz shipping risk is still affecting oil and freight confidence.

At the same time, FBR has changed customs field formation roles, exporters have received a positive tax update, and the government is also looking at fuel relief measures.

For importers and exporters, the message is simple:

There is support in the economy, but shipment costs can still change fast. Plan before cargo moves.

The Current Situation: Remittances Help, but Fuel and Freight Risk Stay High

Pakistan received $3.656 billion in workers’ remittances in August 2026, according to Business Recorder’s report based on SBP data.

    Remittances increased 16.5% year-on-year and reached $7.3 billion during July-August FY27.

This is positive for Pakistan’s external account.

But logistics costs are still under pressure.

According to Business Recorder, petrol increased to Rs375.82 per litre, while high-speed diesel increased to Rs403.32 per litre for September 12 to September 14.

Diesel is now the main number importers should watch because it directly affects inland freight.

    Key Updates:

    1. Remittances Give External Support

Pakistan’s August remittances reached $3.656 billion, according to Business Recorder.

This helps foreign exchange confidence and supports import payment planning.

For businesses, this is positive, but it does not remove the need to check landed cost.

    2. Diesel Crosses Rs400 Per Litre

Fuel prices increased again this week.

According to Business Recorder, diesel rose to Rs403.32 per litre, while petrol rose to Rs375.82 per litre.

    This matters because diesel affects:

    • Trucking rates
    • Container movement
    • Port-to-warehouse delivery
    • Long-route transport
    • Final landed cost

Importers should confirm inland freight before finalising shipment pricing.

    3. PM Fuel Relief Measures Are Still Important

Fuel relief is also becoming a government focus.

According to Radio Pakistan, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the petroleum minister to negotiate with oil refineries and take steps to reduce locally produced diesel prices.

The Petroleum Division also said the petroleum pricing committee reviewed ways to make fuel pricing more transparent and protect consumers from sudden price shocks.

This matters for logistics because diesel is one of the biggest cost drivers for inland freight.

If relief measures reduce diesel pressure, it can help transporters, importers, exporters, and businesses moving cargo from port to warehouse.

But for now, diesel is still high, so importers should continue checking inland freight before confirming shipment cost.

    4. Hormuz Shipping Risk Still Matters

Regional shipping risk is still active.

According to Reuters, shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz remained below its 10-day average over the weekend.

This matters for Pakistan because fuel, freight, and vessel movement are linked to regional shipping stability.

Importers and exporters should keep buffer time and avoid assuming freight rates will stay fixed.

    5. FBR Changes Customs Field Formation Roles

FBR has also introduced changes in customs field formations.

According to Business Recorder, the changes include digital and intelligence-based post-clearance monitoring, WeBOC surveillance, export schemes, warehouses, clearing agents, and EPZ-related responsibilities.

For importers and exporters, this means documentation and compliance need more attention.

Small mistakes in customs data can create bigger problems later.

    6. Exporters Get a Positive Tax Update

There was also a positive update for exporters.

According to Business Recorder, FBR has abolished super tax for exporters with income above Rs500 million if their realised export proceeds are more than 80% of total turnover for that tax year.

This can support larger exporters and improve export cost planning.

    7. Pakistan and Qatar Discuss New Trade Routes

Pakistan and Qatar also discussed wider trade routes through the Middle East, Türkiye, and Europe, according to Business Recorder.

    This is a long-term development.

It will not reduce costs immediately, but it shows that regional connectivity is becoming more important for Pakistan’s trade future.

What This Means for Importers and Exporters

Week 37 is about staying ready.

Remittances are helping Pakistan’s external position.

But diesel is high, Hormuz risk is active, and customs monitoring is becoming more digital.

Importers and exporters should now focus on:

    • Checking inland freight
    • Reviewing landed cost
    • Preparing documents early
    • Confirming customs data
    • Keeping buffer time for vessel movement
    • Watching fuel and shipping risk

    The key lesson is simple:

Good numbers help the economy, but cargo still moves better when the business is ready before shipment.
